Deen’s Daily: Do or Die For Avalanche; Capitals, Panthers Advance — Habs, Lightning Eliminated

Do or die for the Avs tonight at Ball Arena. Can they force Game 7? Also, three of the four series in the Eastern Conference are over in five games.

The Avalanche are on the brink of elimination heading into Game 6 at Ball Arena for the second consecutive year. They’ll need to right several wrongs that ailed them in Game 5 in Dallas. And more importantly, they’ll need more production from some of the guys at the top of the lineup.

Stanley Cup Playoffs Recap
Washington Capitals vs Montreal Canadiens: The Habs fought valiantly until the end, but their season is over. The Capitals are advancing past the first round for the first time since they won the Stanley Cup in 2018. That surprises me.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs Florida Panthers: The Lightning have also been eliminated. After blowing an opportunity to tie the series at 2-2 in Game 4, they lost 6-3 to the Panthers in Game 5 to bow out in the first round for the third straight year.
Winnipeg Jets vs St. Louis Blues: The Jets are back on top, winning again at home to take a 3-2 lead as the series shifts to St. Louis.

As much as I’d like to see a Game 7 in this series, I do not believe the Avalanche have enough players with the heart and determination to win. That pains me but it is what it is. I’d love to be proved wrong.
I’m glad to see tonight’s game is on TBS. Both Avs victories were on Turner networks, all 3 losses have been on ESPN. I also felt like this whole season, the Avs have had poor showings on ESPN – they obviously give us bad mojo with their shoddy production and play-by-play.
If the Avs win tonight it will be by a good margin. Unfortunately, I am anticipating another late goal/overtime winner by the Stars. Prove me wrong Beds and company.
You said “The Capitals are advancing past the first round for the first time since they won the Stanley Cup in 2018. That surprises me.” Why is that?
I know they’ve struggled in recent years, but 2018 was 7 years ago. I didn’t realize it had been that long since Ovechkin made it past the first round.
It’s amazing what they’ve did this season compared to last with very few lineup changes and one trade deadline pickup, Anthony Beauvillier, who second in points on the team in the playoffs. The only marquee player they really have is a 39 year old Ovechkin. They’re a rag tag bunch with several fun personalities. Both ex Avs Brandon Duhaime & Laars Eller both are excelling in Washington. Not to mention they have an undrafted starting goalie & a the backup who at at 31 has spend a vast majority of his career in the minors (149 NHL games played). Whatever… Read more »
Top line needs to be Landeskog, MacKinnon, and Necas/Lehky/Nuke. Landeskog’s puck retrieval and intensity is infectious. Hopefully it’ll get Mac going hard in this game.
Makar also needs to stop shooting high glove on Otter. Change it up.
