Deen’s Daily: Avalanche Force Game 7 — Three Other Teams Couldn’t

The Avalanche and Stars are set to play Game 7 on Saturday. Meanwhile, three other series ended in Game 6 on Thursday.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — May 2.
Colorado Hockey Now
What an epic battle that was. The Avs led, then it was tied, then they led again, then they trailed.
Then the third period happened, and Colorado won the game to force Game 7. This team wasn’t about to bend over and let this series end the same way it last year. Instead, we’ve got a winner-take-all battle on Saturday at American Airlines Center.

Stanley Cup Playoffs Recap
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Ottawa Senators: The Leafs did it. On their third try, they eliminated the Senators in Game 6 and will advance to the second round for a matchup against the Florida Panthers. As for the Sens, it was a nice taste of playoff action for their group. But still frustrating to lose the Battle of Ontario.
Vegas Golden Knights vs Minnesota Wild: Another series ends in six games. The Golden Knights eliminated the Wild on Thursday, with Mark Stone doing his part to send his team to the second round.
Los Angeles Kings vs Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers continued to pepper the Kings and goalie Darcy Kuemper. And for the fourth straight year, the Kings are bowing out of the playoffs at the hands of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and the Oilers. Edmonton will face Vegas in the second round.

Montreal Hockey Now: Five lessons the Habs learned from their playoff appearance.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Jacob Markstrom is entering the final year of his contract with New Jersey. And it sounds like he’s open to staying there for a lot longer.
Florida Hockey Now: The Panthers are ready to face the Maple Leafs.
Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings have a lot of cap space this summer, and general manager Steve Yzerman has the desire to land a big-name UFA. Can he do it?
What’s wrong with Makar that is contributing to him, missing shots and being slow on coverage? It’s gotta be lower back or knee.
Think Bednar surprises everyone and goes with Wedgewood in game 7? Blackwood has seemed off save for games 1 and 4.
Blackwood was outstanding in each of the first four games, and was the sole reason the Avs had a shot to win game three. But I will agree he’s been really shaky in games five and six. I thought he’d get pulled in the 3rd period again last night, and if we still managed to pull off a win, I think Wedgewood would have been the game seven starter. As it stands with Blackwood finishing game six, though, I’d say there’s a 100% chance he gets the start on Saturday. However, he might have a shorter leash if he lets… Read more »
Don’t forget about that soft-ass goal Blackwell scored on him in game 1. And then there’s his 7.5 GAA and .722 SV% in game 5… Definitely makes me raise an eyebrow.
He’s been spotty at best. He’s had a pile of highlight reel saves with some garbage mixed in. He needs to be better to beat the ‘Peg (likely opponents in round 2).
To be fair, three of the five goals in game 5 were near impossible to stop. The first two he should have had, though. I would be shocked if Wedge gets the start.
Not that anybody cares much… But MacKinnon, surprisingly, is not a Hart finalist. Given the season he had, it says a lot about the quality of the three finalists.
I think the biggest reason is that he won it last season. Both Makar and MacKinnon are finalists for Ted Lindsey (which should be ranked higher than Hart imo).
Agreed. Only because it’s the players that decide.
This is not to be pessissimist but all the statistics are against the Avalanche for Game 7: No win for the Avalanche in the last 6 appearances in a Game 7. Deboer is undefeated in 8 appearances in a 7 match. Bednar has never won a series against Deboer in 3 appearances. Game 7 is away for the Avalanche. Deboer has already started working to influence the work of the referees for Game 7. There could be a possibility that Heiskanen could be in the lineup for Game 7. The beauty of it is that it’s only a part… Read more »
All streaks end. I picked Avs this time because I truly believe they will show up this time. I am wrong way too often, so here is hoping that I am right this time. Miro is a non factor if the Avs bring there A game. If they skate and play hard, keep it simple, they are almost unbeatable. Unfortunately, they have yet to bring that to a game 7, Saturday is going to be different, they will bring it! This comes from a guy who was done after game 5, was mildly surprised after period 1, then done again… Read more »
Any update on colton?
Avs need to start scoring on the PP.
Last they need to play tighter defense and Blackwood needs to be better. He makes highlight saves and then let’s in soft ones.
Ya, right! As if useless Colton was a game changer!! Let me give it to you guys down your throat slowly but gently. 6-2 Dallas!. Ok, now you can follow the Nuggets tomorrow and spare yourselves stomach ulcers. Bednar is as clueless as the old broken clock on my wall. Brain-dead and dumb. Dallas, if not for the late lucky bounce could have eliminated the Avs in 6. Will take it! Deboer’s plan is simple: dump the puck in the Avs zone, ravish them and stick it up to them. it’s Pitbulls against Chihuahuas dog fight. Shelling pucks from a… Read more »
