Deen’s Daily: Eichel Talks Extension, Hughes Contract Stalemate; What Will Their Next Deals Mean for Necas?
The Avs second day of training camp was another intense four hours of on-ice action. Also, Jack Eichel talked about his next contract and Luke Hughes still doesn’t have a deal. How will their eventual contracts, whenever they’re signed, affect the Martin Necas talks?
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — September 20.
Colorado Hockey Now
Day 2 of camp has come and gone. The Avs will wrap up the third day today before taking on Utah in a double header of preseason games on Sunday.
Of course, camp doesn’t end after that. We’ll start to see players get cut and the team trimmed down leading up to opening night.
Here are stories from the second day of camp.

Around The NHL
We’re still in a holding pattern with all kinds of contract talks around the league. The most urgent are Mason McTavish and Luke Hughes, who have yet to sign new deals for this season. But there’s also Jack Eichel, Kirill Kaprizov, Connor McDavid and a long list of stars entering the last years of their deal.
I asked Necas about his contract talks the other day and his answer was as much a non answer as anything. But he did admit the two sides are talking and “we’ll see what happens.”
I still wonder where this ends up for the Avs. But what I want to know most is, how will every contract signed from here on out affect Necas? Hughes and Eichel don’t play the same position, but they’re still going to set new standards around the league when they sign — whenever that is.
