Around The NHL

Vegas Hockey Now: The Golden Knights are one of the teams interested in goalie Carter Hart. My colleague Hannah Kirkell at VHN writes that the team should stay away.

Hart can’t sign an NHL deal until Oct. 15 but NHL Insider Chris Johnston said recently on the SDPN’s CJ Show that he could make a decision on his next landing spot by Oct. 1, and possibly as early as this weekend.

It would be somewhat similar to when Jonathan Toews announced that he’d sign with the Winnipeg Jets in June before officially signing a contract on July 1. Like the other members of the Hockey Canada trial, Hart wouldn’t be eligible to play until Dec. 1.

The Carolina Hurricanes are also interested in Hart and could make more sense than the Knights, given their lack of a true No. 1 goalie making big money like Adin Hill.

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils are forced to move on without Luke Hughes as the regular season nears and the young defenseman sits at home without a contract. Here’s who the team might use to replace him in the early going.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The latest injury update from the Pens.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Habs top line is going to have all the talent in the world this season. Can they become one of the league’s elites?
