Key Stories to Watch

  • Both teams will wear vintage jerseys, with the Avalanche donning Nordiques sweaters for the first time and the Hurricanes wearing Hartford Whalers white.
  • Brent Burns will be honored before puck drop for reaching 1,500 regular-season games. Burns played 246 games with the Hurricanes before signing with the Avs in July.
  • Neither team has had a successful power play despite their early-season success. Colorado is 30th in the league at 11.5% — one spot ahead of the 31st-place Hurricanes (8.5%).
  • The Avalanche are one of two teams without a regulation loss, and have a chance to extend that to eight games to start the season for just the third time in franchise history.
  • Carolina has just one loss, and could join the New Jersey Devils as the only teams with six wins in their first seven games.
  • Colorado’s Scott Wedgewood gets the nod once again, having played every game thus far.
