Taylor Makar could be making his NHL debut on Saturday in San Jose.

The Avalanche called up the 24-year-old forward, and he’s expected to join the team for their second game of a back-to-back against the Sharks.

Avs rookie forward Gavin Brindley left Friday’s game in Vegas with an injury after taking a hit from Ivan Barbashev. Jared Bednar said after the game that he’d have an update on Saturday on whether Brindley would be able to play.

Makar’s call-up is likely a precaution in case Brindley can’t play. The younger brother of star defenseman Cale Makar has a goal and three assists in nine AHL games with the Colorado Eagles this season. The Avs drafted him in the seventh round in 2021.
