Deen’s Daily: Red Wings Season Series Begins; Panarin’s Fit, Contract Ask; Injury Updates

Published

on

The Avs and Wings are playing two consecutive games. Where does Artemi Panarin fit and what’s he looking for on a new deal? Also, an update on Jack Hughes and other injuries from around the league.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — January 31.

Colorado Hockey Now

I’m in cold, snowy Detroit and will have live coverage of the Avs’ game this afternoon. The Jared Bednar era of Avalanche hockey have dominated the Red Wings. Like, I mean, they’ve shredded them.

Since Bednar was hired as coach, the Avs are 14-1-1 against the Wings, and the one regulation loss was at Joe Louis Arena in 2016-17. That was the last game between the two clubs before Little Caesars Arena opened.

Colorado is in a weird place right now. The team doesn’t look good on the ice and has been mostly inconsistent for weeks. Here’s my take after the 7-3 loss to the Habs two nights prior.

Hi Aarif…I’m a 30 year Avs fan and Denver native who just relocated to northern Michigan. I appreciate and respect your coverage of our team, both during hot streaks as well as…now. Here’s to righting the ship this afternoon! #GoAvsGo !

Keep up the good work,
Mark

Joe Murphy

I like Panarin as a rental, but we can’t be saddled with him for five years. He is a patient sniper and has a much more productive season going than Landy.

Pass on a longterm, home run ($11+m AAV), contract with the Bread Man. With Rangers in big time SELL mode, get Trochek. 3C solved and more.
