Erik Johnson put on LTIR; Does this mean Joe Sakic is about to shop for another goalie?

So, Erik Johnson was put on the Long Term Injured Reserve list today by the Avalanche. Essentially, this means that the Avs have his cap hit taken off the books for as long as he’s out this season. If he comes back, though, the Avs would have to take all his cap hit back and cut elsewhere – if they were to go over the cap.

According to our partners at PuckPedia, the Avs right now have $5,027,916 of cap space suddenly with the move to put EJ on LTIR. I asked the good folks there to put that more into plain language what it means for the Avs, and got this in reply:
