Avs will get rest before next series, but will it induce rust?

My personal motto: if there isn’t something to worry about, you must manufacture something to worry about and worry about it. Maybe a slight exaggeration, but not too far off. So let’s manufacture something to worry about here with the Colorado Avalanche: by eliminating the Nashville Predators in a first-round sweep Monday night, and potentially not playing their next game for a full week, will the Avs unintentionally introduce the issue of “rust” into the equation?

There are examples from the Avs’ past, and those of other sports teams that won too fast, too easily, of losing some of their edge for the next series and paying for it. Joe Sakic has said before that “rest is a weapon” and that’s demonstrably true in many cases – even, arguably, for the Avs from the end of the regular season and into the playoffs.

But how much rest is too much rest? Jared Bednar did a brief media availability today after the team’s charter plane landed at DIA, and was asked by CHN correspondent Ryan Boulding about the “rest/rust” question.
