Alex Galchenyuk is getting another chance in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche.

With Artturi Lehkonen breaking his finger on Monday night, and Darren Helm not quite ready for game action, the Avalanche had to make a move. On Tuesday morning, the team announced they had recalled the 29 year old Galchenyuk from the Colorado Eagles.

Galchenyuk’s first stint with the Avalanche earlier in the year did not go very well. He only lasted four games, struggled to produce any offense, and really struggled in the defensive zone. CHN touched on it when evaluating all the call-ups in January.

The fact that he’s getting another opportunity with the team shows the strides he’s made in the AHL. In 33 games with the Eagles, he’s picked up 33 points. He’s been especially hot of late, with 13 points in his last 10 games.

It would be a bit of a surprise if they just threw him right into the spot Lehkonen had been playing in, but he’s a talented player and might benefit from playing with other skilled forwards.

Stay tuned to CHN for more news on Galchenyuk and the Avalanche.
