Ivan Fedotov is considered to be one of the best goalies outside of the NHL in the world, but getting him to the best league in the world has been complicated, to say the least. The Flyers, however, are not giving up.

An unrestricted free agent next summer, does it make sense for the Penguins to explore trading Jake Guentzel? What’s his market value?

With the Colorado Avalanche, we looked at the dominance of Nathan MacKinnon at even strength last season.

All that and more in this Tuesday edition of Evan’s Daily.

Colorado Hockey Now

It’s August, which means it’s officially the dead of the summer when it comes to the NHL, so we aren’t likely to see a ton of news over the next few weeks.

We already knew Nathan MacKinnon was arguably the best player in the NHL last year at 5v5. New numbers show it might not have been all that close.

Since it’s so quiet, I’ll plug the Jonathan Drouin film room again. Starting on Tuesday, I’ll be digging into Ryan Johansen film.

Around the NHL

The Philadelphia Flyers are fighting for one of the best goalies in the world. Ivan Fedotov, who recently signed a two-year contract in the KHL. Fedotov was arrested last July in Russia, right when he was about to come overseas to the NHL, and forced to serve his year in the military. The Flyers thought his NHL contract would be tolled for next year, but the KHL did not believe he had a valid contract in the NHL.

Now, the Flyers are waiting for the final ruling from the IIHF on the matter. If they rule in favor of the Flyers, he will compete with Carter Hart for the starting goaltender spot. If not, the Flyers might be waiting even longer. It’s complicated situation, but the IIHF is expected to make their decision pretty quickly, so the wait won’t be much longer.

Guentzel Trade?

The Penguins are in a weird spot. They’re locked into long-term deals with the veteran stars of the team, and are basically stuck trying to compete in their final years in the league. And next year, Jake Guentzel is set to hit unrestricted free agency.

How much would it cost to re-sign him? And if they can’t re-sign him, what could they get for him in a trade?
