With NHL teams needing to be cap compliant with their full rosters by Monday afternoon, Sunday became the big waiver day around the league. Odds are that that most, if not all, of the players on waivers will pass through, but there are certainly some interesting names available for free around the NHL.

With the Colorado Avalanche, Bowen Byram hit the ice for practice just a few days after taking a big hit into the glass in the preseason finale, and the team made some additional roster moves.

All that and more in this Monday edition of Evan’s Daily.

When he got smashed into the glass with under two minutes left in the game, fans became worried about Bowen Byram, but on Sunday, he was back on the ice with his teammates, as the Avalanche hit the ice for practice. In addition, the team announced three roster moves.

On Monday, I’ll take a look at three defensemen on the waiver wire that could make sense for the Avalanche. About that waiver wire…

NHL Waiver Wire

There are a lot of players on the waiver wire right now. If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself.

While my piece this afternoon will take a look at a few defensemen that make sense for Colorado, there are a couple of goalies that could fit. If the team would rather have Justus Annunen playing in the AHL, an NHL veteran like Martin Jones could make sense. On the flip side, Jones hasn’t exactly been any good the last few years, so I’m not sure he makes any sense.

Either way, we’ll wait until noon MST to see if anyone gets claimed.

The Pittsburgh Penguins could be getting a big boost, as Jake Guentzel may be ready for opening night.

Old friend AJ Greer is one of the names on waivers.

Former DU goaltender Magnus Chrona talks friendship with a Tampa Bay Lightning goalie.

Simon Edvinsson was a very high draft pick for the Detroit Red Wings, but his teammates see the potential. (+)
