UPDATED: Makar And Byram Miss Practice, Questionable For Wednesday

Colorado Avalanche, Cale Makar

I come bearing bad news this morning from Colorado Avalanche practice.

Cale Makar is not practicing today, but he’s not alone.

Neither is Bowen Byram.

I’ve updated below with some quotes from Jared Bednar after practice on the status of the two, but the Avalanche only called up Caleb Jones this morning. Right now, they’re at the roster limit of 23, so they can’t call up anyone else at the moment. Kurtis MacDermid is still here, but practicing as a forward. The organization has made it clear that they would prefer he not play defense this season, if they can avoid it.

Makar was briefly taken out of the cam on Sunday after a dangerous play by Kyle Okposo, but managed to return for the third period. Nothing obvious happened to Byram, as far as I know, but he is still dealing with something.

In addition, the Avalanche are running some new lines today.

After practice, Bednar went into a little more detail no what’s going on, and it’s injuries for both of them.

“They’re banged up from the other night. Both of them. So…we’ll see.” he said.

Bednar said both of them could play tomorrow, but they’re not planning on calling up another defensemen unless both can’t go.

“I would expect one to play,” Bednar said.

So we’ll find out tomorrow if either of them are good to go. After practice, we talked to Caleb Jones and Riley Tufte, and Jared Bednar went into more detail about what he’s seen from the new additions. I’ll have more from them here soon.
