Evan’s NHL Daily: Foudy Sighting, Drouin Extension Debate, USA!

Jean-Luc Foudy nhl

Friday wasn’t necessarily a busy day in the NHL, but it was on Colorado Hockey Now and in the hockey world. At CHN, we published four different articles throughout the day, including an injury update from practice, and an article asking the question – Is it time to talk about an extension for Jonathan Drouin? I saw a lot of varying opinions on the subject, and that’s what I expected. It’s not a cut and dry situation, but it’s an interesting subject at this point in the season.

In the hockey world, we got a Jean-Luc Foudy sighting with the Colorado Eagles. Is a return on the horizon? And over in Sweden, Team USA took home Gold in the World Junior Championships.

All that and more in this Saturday edition of Evan’s Daily.

Colorado Hockey Now

Taking a look back at the win in Dallas, where Miles Wood showed (again) why he was targeted by the Avalanche.

Is it time to talk about an extension for Jonathan Drouin? It would be risky, but if you do it now, you might be able to get him for a lot cheaper than you could a few months down the line.

Good news/bad news at Avalanche practice, as Bowen Byram is out against Florida (and at least a week, as he was placed on IR Friday night), but Artturi Lehkonen is starting to take contact.

Jared Bednar gives his perspective on Devon Toews locking down Jason Robertson in overtime on Thursday. (+)

In addition to the + content, everything will be ad-free, which is the biggest perk. I’m working on more + content around Ross Colton’s transition to center, and how different playing in the West is compared to the East.

Jean-Luc Foudy Sighting

Jean-Luc Foudy, who has not played a game this season, was spotted on social media in a non-contact jersey at Colorado Eagles morning skate.

Now, it’s my understanding that Foudy has been skating here and there, but the fact he traveled with the team is interesting. It should be noted that the Eagles play the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday. Who plays for the Admirals? Jean-Luc’s brother, Liam Foudy. Don’t you think he wants to play against his brother?

We’ll keep an eye on this. It’s a shame that Foudy hasn’t been able to play this season, because if he was healthy, he likely would have gotten a look at the NHL level by now.

World Junior Championships

Another World Junior tournament has come and gone, and Team USA has taken home the Gold Medal, their sixth in WJC history. They beat Sweden by a score of 6-2 in the Gold Medal game, in what was essentially a road game, as the tournament took place in Sweden. Congratulations to Team USA, and to Team Sweden on a great tournament.

National Hockey Now

He’s having yet another dynamite season at the age of 36, but teammates and opponents don’t think Sidney Crosby is getting enough credit around NHL circles.

The San Jose Sharks might have a future NHL star on their hands in Will Smith. Looking at their roster…they certainly could use that.

Florida might be without Evan Rodrigues and Alex Barkov on Saturday when they take on the Avalanche.

Elias Lindholm is an NHL All-Star, but he probably doesn’t deserve to be.

Jack Hughes, one of the most dynamic players in the NHL, might be hurt again.
