Evan’s NHL Daily: Tortorella Suspended, Avalanche Lose Key Player

John Tortorella kind of lost it on Saturday night with the refs, but did he deserve a two game suspension from the NHL? That’s what he got, and it’s a little ridiculous (in my opinion) when you look at some of the suspensions handed out around the NHL this season.

Meanwhile, the moves the Colorado Avalanche made up front to add depth make a little bit more sense today, as Jared Bednar announced that Logan O’Connor will miss the rest of the season because of a hip injury.

All that and more in this Monday edition of Evan’s Daily.

The Avalanche are planning ahead for next season already, as there pursuing one of the top Swedish players in Marcus Sylvegård.

Awful news for Colorado’s most important bottom six player, as Logan O’Connor will miss the rest of the season due to hip surgery. It will be difficult to replace him, but in the coming days, we’ll take a look at who can do that.

As for today, I’ll take a look back at the trades Colorado made at the deadline and analyze them, and the Avalanche have one more practice before heading to Canada.

Tortorella Suspended

Yeah, John Tortorella kind of lost his cool on Saturday night, but a two game suspension? Are we serious here?

Listen, I get it. The NHL doesn’t like it when their refs get shown up, but a two game suspension seems a little absurd to me. You’ve got players whacking others in the head who aren’t suspended, and then you’ve got guys hitting other players from behind in very dangerous positions who get one less game than Tortorella.

Torts probably won’t pay a cent of this fine, so that part isn’t really a big deal, but that’s all it should have been, in my opinion. Fine him and move on.
