Evan’s NHL Daily: Byram Going Off, Robbed Of A Goalie Fight
Hockey trades seem pretty rare in the NHL, but the entire point of a hockey trade is for both teams to benefit. The Avalanche didn’t move Bowen Byram because they didn’t like him. No, they moved him because they needed a second line center. Byram has gone to Buffalo and shown why it was so difficult for Colorado to trade him.
In Chicago, we looked like we were on the brink of a goalie fight…until the refs stepped in.
All that and more in this Wednesday edition of Evan’s Daily.
Colorado Hockey Now
Colorado is going to have to make do without Logan O’Connor. Who can replace him in the lineup?
Byram is rocking it in Buffalo, but Casey Mittelstadt got his first in an Avalanche uniform on Tuesday.
There’s no denying the Avalanche are a very different team with Valeri Nichushkin in the lineup.
Byram Going Off
Bowen Byram is still a good player in the NHL, and in his first few games in Buffalo, he looks like a guy who was chomping at the bit for a bigger role.
In his first three games, he has three goals, including two on Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

Byram was not having a good season in Colorado, and was pretty critical of himself. Sometimes all a guy needs is a change of scenery. Best of luck by Byram in Buffalo, and both teams should be happy with how it worked out. That was the whole point of the trade, after all.
Robbed Of A Goalie Fight
Speaking of rarities in the NHL, it looked like we were about to a full blown goalie fight in Chicago, but the refs had to go in and put a stop to it.

Both of these teams are out of it, and will finish near the bottom of the NHL standings, so let them go. Look at the grin on John Gibson’s face. I bet he hasn’t smiled much in years with how things have been going in Anaheim, so he was looking for a good time.
There was hockey played in this game, and Connor Bedard picked up five points, which may put him back on top for the Calder Trophy.
National Hockey Now
A four game suspension for Matt Rempe for his hit on Jonas Siegenthaler. Wonder how much longer this goes on, but the NHL had to do something after his chicken wing hit.
Have the Pittsburgh Penguins hit rock bottom? Probably not…
Avalanche fans can thank the Florida Panthers for their comeback win over the Dallas Stars.
With no Dylan Larkin, the Detroit Red Wings don’t look anything like a playoff team.
