Dominic Toninato’s time with the Avs is over

Trader Joe was at it again this morning. While most of us slept, Joe Sakic made a swap with the Florida Panthers, dealing Dominic Toninato to the Cats for minor-league D-man Jacob MacDonald.

Here are some numbers:

Hey, the kid scored a goal in one of his two NHL games last year. Which is the same number of goals Toninato scored in the 39 games he played with the Avalanche. Toninato was given a real chance by the team to stick as a depth forward, and while he battled hard and was a good forechecker, he just couldn’t produce any real offense. Like, almost none. In the two games he played for the Avs this past season, his Corsi for percentage was 34.4.

MacDonald is likely to be ticketed to the Colorado Eagles and potential call-up material should injuries strike. He’s an offensive D-man type, as his numbers suggest.
