Kovalenko Set To Make North American Debut Tuesday; Avalanche Debut Next?

The wait appears to be over, as Nikolai Kovalenko is set to make his debut in North America on Tuesday night. How much longer until we see him in a Colorado Avalanche uniform?

Kovalenko, who has been recovering from the MCL sprain he suffered in his final KHL game, will finally play for the Colorado Eagles after an absence that lasted a little over five weeks. He initially skated with Avalanche assistant coach Toby Peterson while the team was on a road trip, but has since been rehabbing in Loveland.

If Kovalenko makes it out of this game and looks fine, the next question will be whether or not he deserves a look in Colorado’s final regular season game on Thursday against Edmonton. If you ask me, he absolutely should see the ice. Depending on what happens during Winnipeg’s game on Tuesday night, that game on Thursday might mean nothing when it comes to the standings. It would be the perfect opportunity to see what Kovalenko can do at the NHL level.

Jared Bednar has gone on the record multiple times saying he would like to see what Kovalenko can do, whether it be in practice or in games, with the Avalanche. This would be an opportunity to see what he can do.

I’ll be watching tape of the game later tonight and will report back on everything.

Hopefully he has mended well. However, I would think the odds are highly stacked against him playing in the NHL playoffs. The COL staff seems fixated on using players with experience and a general unwillingness to try out young players.

Yeah at this point if Kovakenko has a pulse of any kind, there’s zero reason he shouldn’t be in the lineup over Parise or Cogliano especially. But to your point we know how Bednar has a fetish for old vets. So who knows..

A nice win and an assist in his first game, but I did not watch it. By the way Evan, do you know why the Eagles are playing in the Pacific division in the AHL and not in Central?

Ken

They are in no man’s land but I have asked the same. Please do not bring this up too much though, as I live in CV and like seeing the Eagles here with a good chance of a playoff series.

Dave North

lol, sorry 😊

Play kovalenko over parise. Parise has been a huge defensive liability.

Drouin mack nuke
Lekhonen mittelstadt moose
Trenin colton duhaime
Wood wagner kovalenko

They need a spark

Derek

I like those lines a lot. Moose needs to be on that 2nd line away from mack

I don’t think you’re going to watch tape. I think you’re going to watch video recordings at a digital level. I want to clear that up accuracy matters in journalism or at least real journalism
