Dater Diary: Avs-Stars have rich playoff history, and here are some memories

EDMONTON, ALBERTA – A subscriber of the site, a person from Texas who happens to be in the journalism business but is an Avs fan, wanted me to write about the Avs-Stars playoff series of the past. So this is for him, and maybe you’ll get something out of it too.



The fact is, the Avs and Stars have a rich playoff history. Not as rich and colorful as the Avs and Red Wings, but it’s No. 2, for sure, on the all-time Avalanche playoff rivalry list.

Some history and my memories of covering it all:

1999, Western finals – This is one of the more underrated and great playoff series of all time, in my opinion. The Avs lost it in a brutally tough Game 7, though, so it’s not remembered favorably by longtime Avs fans.
