Pavel Francouz new mask is straight fire

I know there are a lot of goalie mask fanatics out there, and so this post is for you. Take a look at the new goalie mask of Pavel Francouz.

What a great mask. Awesome tribute to the Nordiques’ past, but also the Avs’ history too, with Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg on one side.

Some of you might note that the name of “Stastny” is misspelled on that tribute to the three brothers, but I bet that is intentional. Many people called them the “Stats-ny” brothers because of their gaudy stats.

I think it’s just a dynamic looking mask. They really should think about selling replicas of these at Koho, the manufacturer whose tweets announced the Francouz mask today.

Philipp Grubauer also announced a new mask for himself too, which will have a gold-mining theme I guess. I still haven’t seen it though.

Goalies masks have become the place where true art flourishes in the hockey world. They have become a clearinghouse to some of the most interesting designs and true artistic creativity. As I said, I think the equipment companies should find a way to mass produce them in an affordable way, but that might be a stretch. But I know a lot of collectors who would buy them.

Here is the artist who did this. Absolutely, as the Koho tweet says, give him a follow:

A little goalie news today, by the way: Jared Bednar said he wants a 65-35 split with his goalie rotation in the 56 games, with Grubauer getting the larger share.

“He’s our starter,” Bednar said.

Bednar also strongly indicated that Grubauer will start on opening night, this Wednesday, against the St. Louis Blues.
