Hunter Miska

A source close to the situation has informed Colorado Hockey Now that Avs back-up goaltender Hunter Miska likely received a false positive on his COVID test.

Miska was added to the Avs’ COVID Protocol list on Feb. 15.

“He feels absolutely nothing,” the source said.

Per the NHL rules, since Miska tested “positive” he must enter the COVID Protocol, which he was added to on Feb. 15. The player must stay on the list for 10 days and receive a few negative test results before he’s eligible to return to the team’s facility. At that point, players must then pass cardio testing before he may begin to workout off the ice. A few days after that, the player can then begin work on the ice and rejoin the team.

According to the source, he’s already passed the league’s protocol rules to return, however, the Colorado Department of Public Health states that there is no such thing as a “false positive” test, and the individual must therefore remain in quarantine for a week while also presenting a negative test.

The team was apparently trying to work with the state on how to get around this, given he’s tested negative since the false positive, but it doesn’t appear anything will come of that in time.

With all that said — and if Miska truly did already pass the league’s protocol already — he should be eligible to return from quarantine on Tuesday.
