Nathan MacKinnon injured, out vs. Kings

Nathan MacKinnon

Bad news: Nathan MacKinnon won’t play in tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Kings because of a lower-body injury. I’m hearing that they don’t think it’s serious. But it’s serious enough that he won’t play tonight anyway.

I asked Jared Bednar earlier today if there was any new injury stuff, and he said “a couple guys are banged up a bit” and that he was still deciding on his lineup for the game. Obviously, MacKinnon turned out to be one of those guys. Again, I don’t think this is serious.

Bednar added today that he now views the team’s “Number one priority” right now as going into the playoffs as healthy and rested as possible. That means, guys like MacKinnon are going to be rested to sacrifice a possible division title in favor of a larger goal, the Stanley Cup.

That said, it’s never good news when your team’s best player isn’t healthy enough to play a game.

If there’s one constant in covering this team for the last 26 years, it’s that the injuries just never stop. Except for that first season, that is. Since that 1995-96 season, there have literally been hundreds of injuries for this team. This is the latest.

We just have to hope for the best. Regardless, the Avs should have no excuses if they lose to the Los Angeles Kings tonight.

Here is the lineup for the game:

Landeskog-Jost-Rantanen

Nichushkin-Kadri-Donskoi

Bonus Voucher!

Burakovsky-Newhook-Compher

Soderberg-Bellemare-Sherwood

D

Toews-Makar

Graves-Timmins

Nemeth-MacDonald

Grubauer

Better wrap Big Mac up in cotton and bubble wrap! But I guess with McDavid running away in the scorer list and the Avs’ prospects at first in the league diminishing, that should also kill any of MacKinnon’s chances at the Hart this year. I’d surmise he doesn’t care.

An overly protective training staff mantra ?
