Devon Toews to miss first part of regular season

Jared Bednar did his first press avail of the 2021-22 season, and one news item came up immediately: Devon Toews, one of the team’s best players, will miss the first part of the regular season because of an off-season surgery to a shoulder.

“He’ll miss some games to start the season,” Bednar said. “I don’t have an exact timetable” (on a return).

Better to miss time early in the season than later in the season. But, yeah, this is an obvious setback for the Avs before the season even starts. I think Toews was marvelous for the team last season and is already a team leader. But, it doesn’t sound like he’ll miss more than just a bit of time early on.

I’ll have more of a breakdown of Bednar’s presser. One preview though: He said last spring’s loss to Vegas “still stings a bit” and will be used as a motivator for this season.
