Yeah, it was a kick. But, yeah, I’m in agreement with Jared Bednar too. Why do other NHL teams get to kick pucks in lately, and it counts, but it doesn’t count for the Avs? And, frankly, it wasn’t that blatant of a kick. But, it was a kick.
A kick in the pants is what it was for Avs fans leaving Ball Arena, who saw their beloved heroes almost come back from a late 4-1 deficit before losing 5-3. Tyson Jost’s goal that looked to have tied it late was disallowed by the Toronto Zapruder Film bureaucrats, and that was that.
I’m not going to kick the Avs too hard for losing this one. They had kind of an AHL lineup out there and still fought to the end. The Avs did play a terrible first period, though, and no doubt that is the bad aftertaste of this game for a guy like Bednar, who coached his first game of the season.
The Avs managed all of five shots in the first, while the Blues came out pretty lively and got a goal from Justin Faulk that must have felt real nice. With under six minutes to go in the hockey game, it was 4-1 Blues and fans were headed to the exits. And then, a Tyson Jost goal. Then, a J.T. Compher goal. And then, another Jost goal and the place was goin’ crazy all of a sudden. But…no goal.
“I don’t love the call just because I’ve been watching the game in Vegas the other night, that guy in my opinion kicks it in,” Bednar said. “The game in Ottawa, a Toronto guy kicks it in. It seems to count unless it’s us at the end of the game from the short season. So I don’t like it.”
It was more of a sweep of the puck into the net with Jost’s back foot, more than a blatant kick, at least I thought anyway.
