Why we can’t have nice things; Landeskog tests positive for Covid

Gabe Landeskog

It would have been a fully healthy team. Valeri Nichushkin and Jack Johnson were coming back to the lineup tonight, and that meant the Avs would have had a fully healthy team. But no, it won’t be; Avs announced that Gabe Landeskog tested positive for Covid and now has to sit out at least five days, meaning he won’t play tonight against the Seattle Kraken, nor in two other games this week.

Sooo….that is a bummer, especially considering Landeskog was named the NHL’s No. 1 star of the week today. The Avs did say that Landy is asymptomatic.

The other news from the morning skate today: Avs announce that Pavel Francouz will start in goal, his second start of the season.

Nichushkin and Johnson have been cleared to return, so Johnson will slot in for Ryan Murray tonight.

Superstreak Bonus!

According to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times, this is the guy who will start against the Avs tonight:

Does this ever end? Young. Vaccinated. Asymptomatic. Mild strain. 99.997% survivability.

Bob Neal

Good movie line also.

Scott Groginsky

I’m getting better. No you’re not. I feel fine. You’ll be stone dead in a minute. I think I’ll take a walk. You’re not fooling anyone. I feel happy. I feel happy…..

If it’s Landeskog, I think it’s only 99.992%. Connor McDavid is 99.997%.

I’ll be sure to let the world know we’ve got an armchair virologist over here. Be prepared to answer a bunch of questions. Good to have you here.

Luke Waggoner

Oh shut it.

Karl Keen

Uggh this sucks.

No surprise to hear the avs have a player in covid protocol after Marner got covid and was held out of the last game. The assumption being that Landy got it from the leafs. It does not seem like this covid thing will ever end. Bummer!

Luke Waggoner

I thought players could test out of it if they got multiple negatives? Like maybe it’s a false positive? Didn’t Landy have it already? My brain says he had gotten it right before the season. Am I remembering wrong?

Svein Lister

I believe it was early last season

Aaron Rud

Good grief. Asymptomatic . New “variant “ is a damn cold. Enough already.

Karl Keen

If someone knowingly showed up to your birthday party sick with a cold, strep throat, the flu, etc. are you saying you would be cool with that? Since when is exposing others to your sickness an acceptable social practice in our country? It never has been so let’s stop making this some political non-sense. Having the Avs be constantly sick is not going to help us win the cup.
