Bo Byram Skating Again

Bo Byram was back on skates this morning at the Avalanche’s practice facility, Colorado Hockey Now has learned.

Byram, who has been on personal leave from the Avalanche, skated for a good while at Family Sports Center. He also shot pucks and did other things hockey players do.

Byram’s last game was Jan. 10 against Seattle. He accompanied the team to its next game, in Nashville, but did not play. The Avs said he left the team for personal reasons, and that’s the way it’s been since. Byram has been bothered by concussion issues since joining the Avs.

Superstreak Bonus!

The 20-year-old defenseman was having a very good season when he took the personal leave, with 11 points in 18 games. If he can return to the Avs, he would obviously give the team a big boost on the back end.

But that decision will obviously be up to Byram and medical personnel.

Excellent news, but don’t be hasty kid…

It sure would be nice to have Bo in the playoffs though.

William Bloss

I would love to see him back, but easy does it.

Ryan Krueger

I think he should take the remainder of the season off. IMO, his play will be affected unless he doesn’t worry about getting hit and we know he will be hit so unless he is mentally prepared for hard upper body hits he should continue to recover until he is comfortable with this fact again.

[…] le joueur, il ne serait nullement question de retraite prématurée. Le défenseur natif de Cranbrook a recommencé à patiner selon Adrian Dater. Lors de sa séance d’entraînement, il a pris aussi des tirs. C’est un premier pas […]

I am a little ambivalent about this whole thing. As much as I would like to see him back this year, concussion symptoms can come and go for a long time. I would love to see him back for the Avs this year, but next year may be better for Byram and his career.

Karl Keen

Well this is good news!

Well that is good news. Wishing Byram the best for a healthy future. And yes it would be great to see him back in the line up.

Aaron Rud

I know that they left it up to him, and it’s easy for me to Monday morning QB, but the Avs should have told him to take more time off earlier this year. He tried coming back way too soon.

Matt Briggle

I agree with the consensus here. This is great news, and selfishly I want to see him back in games ASAP. But only when he’s fully healthy both mentally and physically, and confident that he can that physical style that makes him so effective out there. Fully healthy Bo for the rest of his life though is the top priority.
