Avs Grades in OT Win Over the Jets

All I do is win, win not matter what (what)

Jack Johnson : B- – He got a few shots off and played a little over 16 minutes. With Girard coming back, it’ll be interesting to see who sits.

Bo Byram : B – He got an assist tonight and played really well in his own zone. He looked healthy and had over 18 minutes on the ice.

Erik Johnson: A – Jumped into the play at the perfect time and showed that he’s still got  it. It was his first goal since March first.

Devon Toews: B – The shot he blocked at the end looked brutal. This is the same guy who bleeding everywhere after taking an elbow to the face a few games ago and still finished the game. This is something fans will want to monitor closely.

The good news: Jared Bednar said he thought Toews was OK, though he hadn’t talked to the trainers.

Cale Makar: A+- Makar scoring a big goal is about as predictable as MacKinnon skating the puck into the offensive zone on a power play. It surprises no one.

Andrew Cogliano: C –  A minus two for the night but I thought he played well on the penalty kill.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel: B – Sometimes it’s nice for the other team to score on themselves. You gotta take what you get sometimes. His line played physical tonight.

Alex Newhook: A – He is really turning it on the last few weeks. He’s made some great passes and is playing confidently.

Logan O’Connor: C – He was another guy who was a minus two tonight. Not super impactful

Nathan MacKinnon: A – He played hard and strong tonight. He’s not just a speedy sharp shooter, but he’s not taken off the puck easily either.

J.T. Compher: C – He led the Avs in faceoff wins tonight with 10. Sometimes contribution doesn’t have to be a goal or an assist.

Josh Manson: B – Baby steps but another solid game from the defenseman. He was third on the team for TOI for the d-men with 20:33, behind Toews and Makar.

Darren Helm: C – He was a minus two with no shots on net tonight.

Atturi Lehkonen: C – He had six shot attempts and 17 minutes of ice time. He’s still finding his way but he’s making headway.

Nico Sturm: C – Looked like he almost had that goal but it went to Aube-Kubel. He still ended with an assist.

Andre Burakovsky: A+ – Snipe, snipe city! Those are the goals I want to see from Burakovsky. Taking the shot and ripping it past the goalie.

Mikko Rantanen: B – There was zero need to crosscheck the guy coming into the zone with 40 seconds left. The Avs have a knack for taking silly, costly penalties and this was one.

Pavel Francouz: B – He faced 43 shots and allowed four tonight. Not the best of stat line but he played fairly well up until the final 5 minutes. Both are hard to fault him for but nonetheless, sometimes a goalie needs to rob a guy to win a game. OT wins are no guarantee for this team.
