It’s common knowledge that many big names in sports like trying their hand at gambling. Top-notch athletes like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Pete Rose, and John Daly are just some of the high-profile individuals from the sporting world that like placing sports bets or playing casino games. This shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing as how they are in a field of work that comes with constant thrills, and it makes sense that they’d want to carry this excitement into their free time as well. If you’re a huge fan of hockey and casinos alike, you’ll be glad to hear that there are also hockey players that like to test their luck outside of the rink. Read on to learn more about who is a fan of the flutter.

Gino Odjick

Perhaps you are a big fan of Gino Odjick, who was the first Indigenous player to be introduced to the BC Sports Hall of Fame. He spent 12 seasons in the National Hockey League, playing for Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, and Philadelphia Flyers. Odjick amassed more than 2500 penalty minutes and is seen as one of the toughest that ever played the game. He liked protecting the goal and smaller teammates, which made him some lifelong friends.

In addition to helping teammates, Odjick also likes helping charities. As he likes playing casino games like poker, he has decided to transfer his winnings to organizations that aid those in need. His aggressive style of hockey translated to poker playing as well, which has proved to be useful. If you’re located in Canada, you can also find some trustworthy land-based casinos to play poker in.

Wayne Gretzky

Another legendary Canadian that we simply cannot leave out from this list is probably the best-known hockey player of all time – Wayne Gretzky. He has 61 National Hockey League records to his name and he got the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as well. There are many more interesting facts about Gretzky. He managed to have 200 points in a single season four times and score over 100 points fifteen times. Then, he was also MVP nine times and his jersey number – 99 – is the only one ever withdrawn from use in the NHL.

After retiring, he started a business career while he also owns a few lower-league hockey teams. Furthermore, he purchased thoroughbred racehorses too. He is a star of some video games and there are even ice hockey slots that have him as a player. Adding the fact that he likes to game as well to all of his other ventures makes him even more impressive. The money he makes from gaming is often given to those in need. If you too are looking to play some games just like Wayne Gretzky, you can easily find reliable online casinos licensed in Ontario and other Canadian provinces that will surely satisfy all your gambling needs.

Jaromír Jágr

Jagr loved to score goals and love to have fun at the tables too. This Czech played for a variety of National Hockey League teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames, and is considered one of the greatest players of all time. He is right after Wayne Gretzky when it comes to the number of points scored in the NHL.

In terms of his gambling habits, it’s a well-known fact that Jágr likes to bet big sometimes and has bet as much as $20,000 on a football game. However, his fans and friends also know that he was a bit unlucky and very likely to lose every bet he placed. His bookie even started worrying that Jágr would stop gambling due to such unfortunate results. As persistent as athletes are, Jágr never gave up and actually managed to win big on a sports wager. Keep in mind, Jagr played fair and square.

Roberto Luongo

Having played for Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, and New York Islanders, this Canadian goalie has many trophies to his name. In addition to dedicating his time to the game we all love, Roberto Luongo was also working with several charities during his entire career. From playing with kids in need to paying for the underprivileged to attend games, he tried his best to use his position for good.

He likes to spend his free time doing all sorts of big and small poker tournaments. Luongo always gives the winnings he earns to charity.

Daniel & Henrik Sedin

Daniel and Henrik Sedin – identical twins from Sweden – were drafted to the National Hockey League when they were only 18. They spent their entire careers (2000-2018) playing for the Vancouver Canucks and were renowned as a great team. Fun fact: both fans and team members regularly mistook them for each other.

Their charity work was also memorable, which was cleverly associated with gambling. They regularly organized casino nights to raise funds for children’s hospitals and charities. The twins also host casino charity nights and invest all the money collected in treatments of rare diseases.
