AVALANCHE NOTEBOOK: Kadri, Cogliano Out For Game 1

After the Avalanche morning skate at Ball Arena, coach Jared Bednar confirmed what by then was obvious — that neither Nazem Kadri nor Andrew Cogliano would be available for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Kadri is out with a broken thumb. Cogliano suffered a broken finger in the Game 4 win over the Oilers in the Western Conference final.

Neither participated in the morning skate.

So the news that they won’t suit up Wednesday night wasn’t surprising.

“Those two guys, I’ll consider them day to day,” Bednar said. “I’m not going to give out any information on our injuries past that or our lineup, or who’s out for what reason. Nor will I give a starter.”

The last part of that was Bednar declining to confirm that Darcy Kuemper, who manned the starter’s net at the skate, would start in goal. But all indications were that he will.

It’s expected that Nico Sturm will step back in the lineup, in what usually is Cogliano’s spot on the fourth line.
