Dater’s Daily: Islanders’ Silence On Kadri Suspicious, Tkachuk Thrilled To Be In Florida

Colorado Avalanche

There is a well-documented thing, where somehow Lou Lamoriello has gotten signings to stay quiet, with no leaks to the media that anything happened. As the days drag by with Nazem Kadri still unsigned, more people are wondering if Lamoriello’s New York Islanders might not already have a deal cooked up with Kadri.

If Lou and/or any other NHL GM is trying to clear cap space to afford Kadri, they’re doing a poor job of it. We’re almost two full weeks into free agency, and Kadri remains unsigned. For me, the most surprising aspect of this story so far is how impressively quiet everybody has been. No matter who you talk to, they say they don’t know anything.

Superstreak Bonus!

So, the wait continues.

  • I think Kadri will take a longer-term, bigger-money deal elsewhere than what he can get in Colorado. But I don’t count out ANYTHING from happening with the Avalanche.
  • And, yes, I think Paul Stastny is still a possibility to come back.
  • Matthew Tkachuk sounds SO happy to be in Florida now, and NOT in Calgary (Florida Hockey Now)

  • Good story here on how the Capitals were able to convince Darcy Kuemper to sign with them (Washington Hockey Now)
  • I think Kuemper would have had a better second year in Denver than he had in the first. I think he was really comfortable with the team by the end, and would have flourished more this coming year. Ironically, I don’t think he will flourish as much in Washington as he would have here.

  • SJS: Will new San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn micromanage the Sharks as he reportedly did the New York Rangers?
  • Thanks for the many kind words after I opened up a little yesterday about some personal stuff. One day at a time, that’s it. I’ll be ok.
  • Hey, guess who is the favorite to win the next Stanley Cup? (SuperBook Colorado)
  • Jack Johnson remains sitting around in Columbus, his off-season home, wondering when/if he might get a new offer to stay with the Avalanche. The Kadri situation remains the sticking point.
  • The Islanders reportedly will bring back the Gorton’s Fisherman logo from 27 years ago as a third jersey this year. Which begs the question: Why? (NYI Hockey Hockey Now)

The Avs are silent too. The Avs do not have the cap space for Kadri without getting rid of a player or two. The question is what are the Avs plans to move on with or without Kadri? Replace Kadri via trade or trade players to free up cap space? Sign a depth forward who can score and/or depth d-man with the remaining cap space? Re-sign or let the remaining RFA’s go? Kadri is just part of the Avs puzzle. I think what everyone really wants to know is when will that puzzle will be complete and what it will… Read more »

I liked those fisherman jerseys. If they straighten the numbers, it could look real nice

No Stastny under any circumstances as I said yesterday he screwed the Avs and should never be conidered – an he will not be!

When the username is red, it is a fake account.

Mine is in black and blue. How do I know which one is really you plus I’m colorblind?

Yan Girard

So just ask yourself if it is possible that I really wrote this.

Bob Neal

Frankly, I thought this one might actually be you because I don’t take you as being a Stasny fan because of his history.

Donald Victory

Your write, its me.

Thor's Hammer

But it might be me!

Peter North

No, it’s me!

Bob Neal

How about Gary Battman?

Gary Battman

Me? Nah.

I like red Yan’s takes better, they don’t take an hour to read. Blue Yan could learn from red Yan…

Just posting to see what color my name is…

I’m over Kadri we don’t want long term nor the price he’s probably asking, aswell as this being dragged out is just a turn off.
Dater what’s your thoughts on the team, at the end of the day were going to be icing the same team minus a few players… so can’t say we’re progressing forward and if your not going forward your moving backwards, could be a little worring, new goalie, Kadri 85 points burky 60 I think that’s a lot of points not being replaced, has sakic… Chris done enough?

Depending on the contract Maltsev just signed and whether any of his salary goes against the cap, the Avs can use the remaining cap space to sign a 3rd line winger or two to play along side Newhook. Evan Rodrigues (43 points at $1million last year), Danton Heinen (33 points at $1.1 million last year) and Sonny Milano (34 points at $1.7 million last year) are still available UFA’s. Compher can play 2C and Newhook 3C, but the 3rd line could use some extra scoring threat.

In hockey, the 1+1=2 principle does not apply. Last year, Nichushkin scored just 21 points in 55 games. This year, Nichushkin has 52 points in 62 games. When the Avalanche didn’t re-sign Saad and protect Donskoi in the expansion draft, many people were also wondering which players would replace them. Often, it’s a matter of opportunity. Most NHL players were dominant in the lower levels. In this sense, many players have a certain talent but not all have the opportunity to exploit it. When players have the chance to play with better players, it advantageously influences their production. For example,… Read more »

UFA Ryan Donato re-signed with the Kraken at 1x$1.2M.

Some say the fisherman on the Islanders sweaters is Stan Fischler…

Bob Neal

Wow, that’s pretty deep but sounds very plausible. I’d never heard of the guy before.
