It was an optional practice today for the Colorado Avalanche at Family Sports Center, and Nathan MacKinnon was one of the players who opted in.

MacKinnon missed practice, and Monday’s veteran-laded lineup in Dallas for a preseason game, but was out there today.

MacKinnon is expected to be in the lineup for the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow for the final preseason game, against Dallas at Ball Arena. It would be his first preseason game. Opening night, against Chicago, is a week from tomorrow.

Holy cow. Was that a fast summer or what?

AVALANCHE NOTEBOOK

Avalanche goalie coach Jussi Parkkila spent a lot of time working with Alexandar Georgiev today. I would expect he’ll get the start tomorrow…Tomorrow’s game is at 7:30. I don’t know why it’s a half-hour later than normal. Does anyone else? … It sounds like Darren Helm won’t be available for opening night. That gives another opening, at least temporarily, for one of the forward hopefuls. … The Avalanche are still in the process of remodeling their locker room at Ball Arena. I’m not sure when it’s supposed to be completed, but I would assume very soon. It’s going to look much fancier than the one of the past. … I still have not heard when the NHL DVD/video of the Cup season will be ready. But I’ll make some calls tomorrow on that. … Want to meet Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen on Thursday? Click here for details, but hurry – and bring your wallet.
