We all knew that Nathan MacKinnon was good, but seven points in two games good? Every time we write about MacKinnon it is about how he doing something better than what he was doing before. Which is hard to do. MacKinnon was honored with the Second Star of the Week from the NHL today.

In just two games against the Columbus Blue Jackets, MacKinnon had seven assists to help the Avalanche win both games in Tampere, Finland over the weekend. Records were set in both games by MacKinnon during the Global Series. He set the record for assists in games played outside of North America during the regular season with seven, all scored in Finland. He also set the record for overall points in games played outside of North America by having one additional point in the Global Series in Sweden.

As the rest of the team struggles offensively, MacKinnon has seemed to have hit his stride in the season with three goals and sixteen assists. His nineteen points are first on the team for the Avalanche and MacKinnon is tied for first in the league for assists. MacKinnon is also sixth in the league with his fifty-five shots on goal. He continues to rack up the points and shots with multi-point games and by outskating his opponents.

Just before the season began MacKinnon signed the largest contract to date in the NHL. He signed an extension that will begin after this season worth a total of 100.8 million dollars over eight years. The contract will average out to a $12.6 million cap hit every season. But, considering his recent production on the ice, this is a bargain.
