Sampo Ranta is getting another chance with the Colorado Avalanche.

Having already played five games with the Avalanche this year, the team announced that Ranta had been recalled again on Saturday morning.

The Avalanche needed a forward with the injury to Darren Helm. The veteran forward will miss “some time” after leaving Thursday’s game. The injury is related to the same one he missed the majority of the season with.

For Ranta, it’s another opportunity to show what he can do.

The 22 year old native of Finland has not registered any points this season, but looked more comfortable. I evaluated the first half of the call-ups for the Avalanche last week, including Ranta. Although he went pointless, he looked better, playing heavy, hard hockey. There is still work to be done defensively, but it’s an improvement on what he showed last season.

In 10 games with the Avalanche last year, Ranta also went pointless.

He will likely slot in on the fourth line and play limited minutes, but a it’s a chance nonetheless.
