Avalanche Locker Room: Malgin Talks ‘One of The Best’ Goals of His Career

Malgin Avalanche

After another big win for the Colorado Avalanche, all anyone really wanted to talk about was Denis Malgin’s highlight reel goal in the third period.

Even Nathan MacKinnon, who tallied another goal and got into a tussle in the third period, was more interested in talking about Malgin than himself. The superstar forward didn’t seem to want to discuss the incident with Mikhail Backlund in the third period.

Hear what Malgin and MacKinnon had to say after the 4-1 win over the Flames. In addition, read what Jared Bednar had to say after the game.

Bednar on the team’s hot streak:

I think it’s the ramped up commitment from our team. They know it’s an important stretch of games. I really liked this weekend, especially because we got a little rest. And I thought the team was fantastic this weekend. Two really good, solid, complete games on both sides of the puck.

Bednar on the Malgin goal:

Quick up play in the neutral zone, and then he’s using his legs. Skates by one guy at the blueline, and then splits the ‘D’ and beats the ‘D’ and finishes it off. I thought was really nice goal. Something you see Mikko and MacK do sometimes. He has that skillset. That line’s been really good for us.

Bednar on Byram moving to top powerplay unit:

The powerplay has been not as productive recently as it has been in the past. Trying to change it, spark the group. He obviously has the skill and ability to play there. I like him up there. That’s basically it.

Bednar on Makar possibly playing Monday:

It’s possible.

Bednar on picking up Keith Kinkaid and Francouz’s Injury:

Depth pickup. We had the 3-4 week window, basically 4 weeks. We’re not quite two into that. He hasn’t had a setback, but there’s no guarantees it’s going to be exactly four. Veteran guy, he’s been around. Not unlike some of the pickups we’ve had around this time.

Bednar on the Kadri Tribute:

The video was awesome. I was starting to get a little emotional on the bench. I had goosebumps. I get a soft spot for those guys. We miss him and he’s having a great year in Calgary.

Bednar on Georgiev’s play:

I’m really happy with his play. He’s obviously learned from the recent past because he’s been really good. He’s been sharp. It helps when our team is playing good, but I’ve really liked his game here recently.

Bednar on Landeskog’s progress:

Slow progress. But it’s progress. He’s on the ice more, doing a little bit more every day. I don’t have a timeline on him because he’s not close yet.
