GOTTA SEE IT: Mikko Rantanen Sets Avalanche Single-Season Goal Record with His 55th
Mikko Rantanen has done a lot of impressive things this season, but did anyone see him breaking an Avalanche record previously set by Joe Sakic?
That’s exactly what he did on Thursday night.
With a one-time blast on the powerplay that tied the game at two, Rantanen scored his 55th goal of the year. The previous single-season best for the Avalanche was Joe Sakic‘s 54 goals in 2000-01. That record is no more.
It was vintage Mikko. Set-up in his usual spot on the powerplay at the right circle, he ripped a one-timer over David Rittich’s glove. It went in and out of the net so fast that fans weren’t sure right away that it had gone in.
Take a look at the goal below, as well as the slow-motion replay that shows just how perfect the shot was.
