Evan’s NHL Daily: Blockbuster Three-Way Trade, Is Carter Hart Next?

NHL teams typically wait until the playoffs are over to start wheeling and dealing, but on Tuesday, three teams couldn’t wait any longer. Maybe they know the Stanley Cup final is pretty much over with anyway…

The Flyers already made one big deal, but is another on the horizon? And does it include the goalie that everyone assumed was their future just a few years ago? Things change quickly in the NHL, and goaltenders who make their way to that city seem to be cursed.

With the Colorado Avalanche, they made a minor signing, and we took mailbag questions, including a question on what a hypothetical Alex DeBrincat trade would look like.

All that and more in this Wednesday edition of Evan’s Daily.

He doesn’t exactly make perfect sense for the Avalanche, but Alex DeBrincat is a top goal scorer in the league. What would it take to acquire him? And what are reasonable expectations for Alex Newhook and Ben Meyers?

Colorado made a minor AHL move, re-signing Wyatt Aamodt to a one-year deal.

NHL Trade

The Philadelphia Flyers are kick-starting their rebuild, as they dealt Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets and received some nice draft picks, including a first-rounder later this month. Columbus seems to be trying to get better immediately, but they’ve got a ways to go to get there.

There were rumblings on Tuesday that after Provorov was dealt, Carter Hart wouldn’t be too far behind. Things seemed to cool off later in the day, but acquiring a goaltender prepares them if they do make a big move with Hart.

There was a third team involved in that trade, and it was the Los Angeles Kings. They didn’t really acquire anything other than cap space. That cap space will likely be used to keep defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov around, as he fit in really well after the trade deadline.

Why are the Ottawa Senators open to moving DeBrincat? Because he apparently isn’t looking to sign long-term right now.

Pittsburgh: Ron Hextall acquired Mikael Granlund at the deadline, and it didn’t work out at all. Now, Kyle Dubas might be forced to buy him out.

Florida: The Panthers vow to play better in front of Sergei Bobrovsky.

New York Islanders: Josh Bailey‘s future might be in doubt on the Island.

Vegas: The Golden Knights are looking to seize destiny.

Nashville: Barry Trotz wants to swing for the fences with their draft picks. Who fits for them at the draft?

New Jersey: The Devils and Timo Meier are expected to begin contract talks soon.
