Avalanche Wrap-Up: Drouin Film Analysis, Soderberg Retires

August is the longest month of the year for hockey fans, but the Colorado Avalanche at least gave us a little something to talk about. The rest, we had to manufacture ourselves.

The organization brought back a familiar face to coach in the AHL, an old friend called it quits for his career, and we dug deep into Jonathan Drouin’s game and the best way for the Avalanche to utilize him.

Here’s a look back at what you might have missed the previous week at CHN, and a peak at what’s coming.

Sunday

A lot of eyes will be on Jonathan Drouin when he shows up to training camp, because fans are certainly excited about the idea of him rekindling his game with Nathan MacKinnon. I dug into his film from last year, and how the Avalanche could best utilize him. (+)

Nathan MacKinnon was the most dominant player in the league at 5v5 last season.

Tuesday

Carl Soderberg, who played parts of 5 seasons with the Avalanche, has called it a career, retiring after playing an additional two years back home in Sweden.

The Eagles added Steve Konowalchuk as an Associate Head Coach for next season.

Thursday

Some Swiss players that left their mark on the Avalanche.
