Cale Makar also extended his season-opening point streak to 13 games with an assist on Lehkonen’s goal. According to the team, Makar’s streak is the second longest by a defenseman to start a season in NHL history. His accomplishment ties a career high he set in 2021-22.  He is the eighth defenseman ever to record multiple point streaks of 13 or more games.

Makar earned another assist on Rantanen’s goal and as of the second intermission, the pair are a point apart from each other with MacKinnon leading the team.
