Avalanche Star Duo Extend Season-Opening Point Streaks
Nathan MacKinnon extended his season-opening point streak to 13 games with an assist on Chris Wagner’s goal two and a half minutes into the matchup with the Seattle Kraken. The Avalanche’s top forward tied his own record from 2019-20. He joins elite company with Wayne Gretzky in his milestone.

MacKinnon has 24 points in 13 games (6G, 18A) with three power-play goals and three game-winning goals (as of second intermission vs Kraken). He earned an assist on Ivan Ivan’s goal at 5:48 in the opening period, Artturi Lehkonen’s first goal of the season in the second and Mikko Rantanen’s power-play goal midway through the second frame.

Cale Makar also extended his season-opening point streak to 13 games with an assist on Lehkonen’s goal. According to the team, Makarโs streak is the second longest by a defenseman to start a season in NHL history. His accomplishment ties a career high he set in 2021-22.ย He is the eighth defenseman ever to record multiple point streaks of 13 or more games.

Makar earned another assist on Rantanen’s goal and as of the second intermission, the pair are a point apart from each other with MacKinnon leading the team.
