Alexandar Georgiev has found his next home. The 29-year-old goaltender signed a one-year deal worth $825,000 with the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Georgiev started each of the previous three years as the starting goalie for the Avalanche. He won 40 and 39 games, respectively, in his two full seasons with the club.

But after things went completely off the rails early into 2024-25, Georgiev was dealt to San Jose in a deal that brought Mackenzie Blackwood to Colorado.

Georgiev won 15 games last season despite making 49 appearances. He had an .874 save percentage in 18 games with the Avs and an .875 in 31 starts with the Sharks.

His most recent contract was worth $3.4 million per season. It’s safe to say he expected to get a raise from that number before his game fell to where it did this past season.

Now he’ll fight for ice time on the Sabres, who already have Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Devon Levi, and Alex Lyon under contract.
