This is going to be one of the more unique seasons to follow in recent memory, given the number of superstars that are still without a contract extension as they enter the last year of their respective deals.
Last year was Mikko Rantanen and Mitch Marner. Those were the two big names people followed all year. This year? It’s another level. And it’s largely because of the changing salary cap landscape. It feels like every player is willing to be patient because they don’t want to be the first one to sign and set the market for others.
