Avalanche to Honor Brent Burns’ Milestone Thursday
Burns recently played his 1,500th regular-season game
The Avalanche are honoring defenseman Brent Burns for reaching 1,500 career regular-season games on Thursday.
The pre-game ceremony is set to take place ahead of the game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Burns spent three years with the Canes from 2022-25 and played in all 246 games.
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 7 p.m. for the ceremony ahead of the 7:14 p.m. puck drop.
Burns, 40, became the 23rd player and eighth defenseman to reach the 1,500 game mark on Oct. 11. It was his third Avalanche game, and he went on to post his first point with his new team. The 22-year veteran began his career in the 2003-04 season before the full-season lockout the following year.
In his third career game, Burns and the Minnesota Wild played the Avs, who at the time dressed Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Paul Kariya, Teemu Selanne, and Adam Foote. He is the last remaining player to have appeared in a game before the 2005 lockout.
The Avs are also wearing the newly unveiled throwback Quebec Nordiques jerseys on that day. It’ll be a vintage night all-around, as the Canes will don the Hartford Whalers colors.
