O’Connor, Brindley, and More — The Latest Avalanche Injury Updates

Coming out of a two-game road trip, the Avalanche were back on the ice Monday in preparation for a home game Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Avs lost a forward to injury on Friday, adding to a list of depth pieces already missing from the lineup.

I wasn’t at practice, but my colleagues were friendly enough to provide updates on some of the absent skaters. Here’s where things stand:

Gabe Landeskog did not practice, but it was confirmed to be a maintenance day for the captain. Landeskog has been slowly working his way back from a knee injury that kept him out for three years. He’s averaging 14:05 per game and has three assists in 13 games.

There’s no question that the team would like more from him. Although they also know it’s going to take time. Landeskog has played on the third line in recent games, swapping spots with Ross Colton, who was elevated to the top six.

Samuel Girard, Logan O’Connor, and Gavin Brindley were all on the ice in red non-contact sweaters.

Bednar said Girard is a possibility for a game this weekend. After Tuesday’s matchup, the Avalanche have three days off before playing on back to back days in Edmonton and Vancouver starting Saturday.

O’Connor was expected to be back this weekend, but it sounds like he’s now going to miss a little more time. He’s still making progress in his recovery from offseason hip surgery.

As for Brindley, the young forward was knocked out of a game against the Golden Knights after taking a hit from Ivan Barbashev. Bednar said Brindley suffered a concussion but hasn’t experienced many symptoms since.

Having Brindley on the ice at all is a step in the right direction, although we still don’t know when he’ll be ready to play. The Avs called up Taylor Makar to replace him in the lineup, but sent him down after he appeared in the San Jose game.

If Brindley can’t dress on Tuesday, the team will need to call up another forward to dress in his place in the lineup.
