Key Stories to Watch

  • The Avalanche traveled to Vegas early Saturday morning, as they were unable to leave Friday because of the CBA-negotiated and league-mandated holiday break from Dec. 24-26. Colorado still had a morning skate despite flying in the same day.
  • Jared Bednar’s club enters this matchup riding a high from before Christmas. After securing their fourth shutout of the season, defeating Utah 1-0 on Tuesday, the Avs are on a six-game winning streak and 8-0-1 in their last nine games.
  • Vegas leads the Pacific Division, which means this is a matchup of No. 1 seeds in the Western Conference. The Golden Knights are having a strange season. They haven’t even won half their games, but they have a league-high 10 overtime losses in just 35 games. They are 6-2-2 in their last 10.
  • Carter Hart gets the nod in goal for the Knights. Hart is making his eighth start in 11 games since being eligible to return on Dec. 1. His backup Akira Schmid has started the other three, as Adin Hill is still injured. Hart will go up against Colorado’s Scott Wedgewood, who is tied for the league lead with 16 wins. Wedgewood was in goal when the Avs defeated the Knights 4-2 on Oct. 31.
  • The Knights are expected to be without Shea Theodore, Jack Eichel, and William Karlsson.
