Speaking of trade rumors, I saw a couple different sites post that Artemi Panarin could be on the move, and that Colorado would be one of his preferred destinations. The articles were quick to point out that the Avs and Rangers would have to do a ton of cap gymnastics just to make it work financially, and that the player cost for us would likely be a deal-breaker – they hypothesized it would take both of Nichushkin and Girard to even get the conversation started. Panarin does have a full no-movement clause in his contract, so he can basically control… Read more »
Great, clutch, player. I’ve always loved his game. I feel ya on the Dallas aspect too! I don’t think that he’s a good fit for Avs at this time due to future contract expectations and age. His current hit is $11.6M AAV and he’s not willing to budge off that for his next contract. Unless the Rangers are willing to sign him to a 3 yr extension at $11M/yr and trade him with 60% retained for length of the new deal, I don’t see it. He’s also 34. How much does he have left in the tank? He may become… Read more »
You’re right, he could be the next Stamkos. But he could also be the next Nelson. The latter is doing pretty well for us so far. All that said, for me personally, Panarin would be third on my trade wishlist from the Rangers. First would be Vincent Trochek – the perfect middle six center for a team like the Avs, but who the Rangers have zero need or desire to trade. Second would be Mika Zibanejad – who is more of a top six center, but could slot middle six if asked to I’m sure. Zibanijad is probably the more… Read more »
Man either trochek or zibanejad woule be fantastic
At team can’t retain more than 50% in a single move, there’d have to be another team involved for a double retention.
I don’t think the Avs are looking for another wing, even though they wanted Panarin badly and supposedly made him a better FA offer than the Rangers did. If they’re doing cap gymnastics I hope and believe it’ll be for Brayden Schenn or Boone Jenner or (and I never thought I’d say this but I guess time does heal some wounds) the return of Factor plus a left shot D like Kulak or Ferraro.or Carson Soucy.
I didn’t know about the 50% max, but that makes sense. In that case, the Avs would probably have to include Ross Colton instead of Olofsson to make the financials work. In which case, I’d say no if I were management.
Per the new CBA: Teams can no longer do a “double retention” trade in which a 3rd party retains a portion of the contract to reduce the player’s cap hit on the new team all at once. Now, a team cannot retain on a contract that has already been retained within 75 regular season days of the first retention. Days outside of the regular season do not count. This means that if a contract is retained at the trade deadline, it cannot be retained again until the second month of the next regular season.
Panarin for Nuke and Girard? No, thanks. Plus, no chance Nuke waives to go to NYR.
