Martin Necas is getting another crack at Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Devon Toews, and the rest of Team Canada. This time in a loser-goes-home elimination match for a right to play in a medal game.

The Czechs defeated Denmark 3-2 on Tuesday to push past the qualifying round. Necas recorded the game’s first goal early in the second period. The power-play tally was assisted by Filip Hronek and team captain Roman Cervenka.

After Alexander True scored for Denmark to even the score at 9:03, Necas had the secondary assist on David Kampf’s first of the tournament just 73 seconds later to retake the lead. Cervenka quickly added another tally to make it 3-1 on what ended up being the game-winning goal.

Necas’s three goals and seven points lead Czechia. The nation will need a far better performance against Canada than it showed in the opening match of the round robin. Canada won that meeting 5-0.
