The Colorado Avalanche (43-10-9) close out a two-game homestand against the Edmonton Oilers (31-25-8). Puck drop is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. MT and will be nationally televised on TNT.
Key Stories to Watch
- Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon are No. 1 and No. 2 in the NHL in points. McDavid has 108 points and MacKinnon 104. Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl has 98 points and is ranked fourth in the league, while Martin Necas is tied for seventh with 76 points.
- The Avalanche are riding a five-game winning streak and are 6-1 since the Olympic break. In their last game, Nazem Kadri assisted on the opening goal and Nic Roy scored the game-tying goal before Colorado won in the shootout. Kadri and Roy were the Avs’ two big deadline acquisitions.
- Colorado is going back to Mackenzie Blackwood, who was pulled after giving up four goals in his last start. Blackwood was 5-3-0 in his last eight decisions before that, and had only given up 13 goals combined. Even with the Dallas blunder, Blackwood is sporting a .920 save percentage in his last nine appearances.
- In the first meeting between the two clubs, the Avalanche defeated Edmonton 9-1, their most dominating performance of the season. That was back before Edmonton shook up its goaltending tandem, and before Colorado’s recent additions. The Oilers are starting Connor Ingram on Tuesday night.
