The Colorado Avalanche lost another member of their front office on Thursday, with Dawson Sprigings departing the organization to join the Nashville Predators.
Sprigings, who spent seven years with the Avalanche, has joined former Colorado general manager Chris MacFarland as an assistant to the general manager. His official title with the Avs was Associate Director of Analytics & Lead Data Scientist. He is the first member of Colorado’s hockey operations department to follow MacFarland to Nashville.
MacFarland left the Avalanche shortly after the club was swept in the Western Conference Final by the Vegas Golden Knights. After receiving permission to interview with the Central Division rival, he accepted the dual role of president of hockey operations and general manager. Since taking over in Nashville, MacFarland has completed two trades with Colorado, acquiring Ross Colton and Jack Drury. On July 1, he signed Jack Ahcan to a two-year contract, giving the Predators three players who appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Avalanche this spring.
During his time in Colorado, MacFarland worked closely with Kevin MacDonald, Andrew Wilson, and Andrew Cogliano. None followed him to Nashville. Instead, MacFarland built out his new front office by hiring Rob Blake and Jamie Langenbrunner before adding Sprigings.
