I’ve been making picks for Bookies.com for a few years, but I’m taking this in-house now. The one thing I won’t do is make pick recommendations on Avalanche games. I did that for Bookies, but I don’t think it’s quite the right thing to do on this site.

So, here are the first three, for Saturday night’s games. I use odds listed at SuperBook Colorado:
Hurricanes moneyline over Stars – At -140, I like this play. That’s a decent return on a home team playing on Saturday night. The Stars are 18-8-5, but I just keep thinking they’re playing over their head some.
I like the Hurricanes to win on home ice on a festive Saturday night.
Panthers, Devils Under 6.5 Goals – These are +100 odds. Even money, in other words. I’ll be hoping for some good goaltending tonight. Don’t bet the farm here, but I’ll forecast something like a 4-2 game. Anything under seven goals, you win this bet and +100 is a nice return. A $10 winning bet puts $20 in your pocket ($10 profit, $10 stake back).
Maple Leafs Moneyline over Capitals – At -135, this is a decent return on a good Leafs team. I think this might be on overtime game, but I like the Leafs to get the extra point.
