The Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champs, and there is a lot that other teams can learn from them. What can the Avs take from the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed? Also, a long-term contract extension seems like an inevitability for the Philadelphia Flyers’ starting goalie.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — June 15.
Colorado Hockey Now
The Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup on Sunday and Jordan Staal was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy. Much deserved.
Carolina winning it all continues a trend that has become more common since COVID.
The Avalanche can learn a lot from the Carolina Hurricanes. Here are my four big takeaways from the SCF, and what the Avs can take from the series they so badly wish they were a part of.

Recap: From an outsider’s perspective, it felt like Game 6 was the inevitable end of the Stanley Cup Final. Vegas didn’t feel like the same team we had seen get hot against Anaheim, Colorado, and through the first two or three games of the SCF. They felt fatigued, injured, the goalie was struggling, and perhaps the biggest loss: William Karlsson wasn’t going to be in the lineup.
Carolina landed the final blow on Sunday, winning 3-0 thanks to a shutout performance from Brandon Bussi to secure their first championship in 20 years.
Around The NHL
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: How big of a push should Kyle Dubas make on the trade market? Is a particular Dallas Stars forward worth going all-in for?
Philly Hockey Now: An extension is coming for Dan Vladar to remain with the Flyers long-term. Given what is being reported for this deal, it sure feels like Mackenzie Blackwood’s deal is going to be on the very low end for starting goalies really soon.
Detroit Hockey Now: Axel-Sandin Pellikka should have to fight for a roster spot next year, Kevin Allen writes.
