The Central Division is witnessing quite a few head-to-head matchups since the Olympic break. Samuel Girard is already injured in Pittsburgh. Also, the deadline is less than a week away and rumors are running rampant.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — February 28.

Colorado Hockey Now

The Avalanche came out of the Olympic break with a victory against the Utah Mammoth. The following night, the Minnesota Wild defeated Colorado. And the day after that, the Mammoth defeated the Wild. All three of these games ended in regulation. So, by my count, here is how each team has looked since the break.

Colorado: 1-1-0
Minnesota: 1-1-0
Utah: 1-1-0

Utah was the only one that didn’t have to play on back-to-back nights. The Avs and Wild both lost their second game in as many days.

Around The NHL

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Samuel Girard is hurt. And it’s honestly unfortunate. After playing nearly 18 minutes in his Penguins debut, the newly acquired Pens defenseman missed practice. Here’s why.

Philly Hockey Now: It’s looking more like the Flyers are leaning toward being sellers, just like they were a season ago. The biggest name available is a right-shot defenseman, and one that could probably fetch a big package.

Chicago Hockey Now: The Blackhawks will be active at the deadline. They have two unrestricted free agents who are obvious trade pieces in Ilya Mikheyev and Connor Murphy. But what about a surprise deal?

San Jose Hockey Now: The Sharks made a move for Kiefer Sherwood just over a month ago. Is the forward already back on the market?

Forever Blueshirts The Rangers made a waiver claim for a young forward. Why, and what’s next?
